F.A.Q.
Q. What curriculum do you use?
A. Love Notes 4.0 and Relationship Smarts 5.0 Classic
Q. Does this program really make a difference?
A. Yes! Within the 1,287 youth who took the exit survey the usefulness of the program was rated a 4.1 (on a scale from 1 (not at all helpful) to 5 (extremely helpful).
Youth scored slightly closer to “strongly agree” in terms of their ability to recognize the warning signs of a bad relationship, the ability to say “no” if their boyfriend/girlfriend pressured them for sex and recognize the importance of protection.
Similarly, youth also scored closer to “strongly agree” to having the skills needed for a lasting, stable romantic relationship.
Q. What if the teens aren’t dating?
A. Great question! In one example, Kerpelman et al. (2010) found that when a sample of high school students were introduced to relationship education, false ideas about relationships were decreased, and conflict resolution skills were elevated.
Q. What longterm impact do you see?
A. The pattern in our sample indicated that a small, but significant shift towards more acceptance of dating violence occurred for the non-participants, while the participant group, on average, remained lower in their acceptance. While we emphasize that levels of acceptance for both groups is in the lower portion of the response range at both pre and post, this finding suggests that RE may protect adolescents against a normative increase in dating violence acceptance.
