The Who, What, and Why of The Parenting Center

The Junior League of Fort Worth, Inc. recognized the growing problem of child abuse and neglect in 1974 and formed the Tarrant County Child Abuse Task Force. This group surveyed local social service agencies and determined there was a great need for preventive services for parents and caregivers.

This call to action was answered with funding from the Sid W. Richardson Foundation, the Junior League of Fort Worth, Inc., and a state contract. The Parenting Guidance Center, as it was then called, became a reality in 1975 and has continued to provide services to parents, caregivers, children, families and people in need.

The Parenting Center became a partner agency of the United Way of Metropolitan Tarrant County in 1980. Several other social service agencies have collaborated with us on projects to benefit the community and to use resources in an efficient manner.
